1. Define what is meant by the term "risky sacrifice" stage of achievement by proxy distortion (ABPD). Using one or more of the families, describe three examples of behaviours from the film that are signs of the risky sacrifice stage.
2. Choose one of the families and imagine that they did not have ABPD. Give three specific examples of ABPD behaviours that the parent of that family demonstrates. For each of those examples, give an alternative behaviour that parent could engage in that would still promote their child's sport success, but in a healthier way.
3. Choose one of the families. Explain two examples where members of the entourage could have intervened to protect the child or criticize the parent's ABPD behaviour, and explain why they failed to do so. Your examples can come directly from the film, or they can be plausible examples of what might have been happening off camera. Example (DO NOT USE IN YOUR OWN ANSWER): In Jamie's case, we can speculate that members of her church were part of Jamie's entourage. Jamie may have asked the members of her church to pray for her sons' success in their tennis matches, which would reinforce Jamie to think that her behaviour was positive. The other church members may not have intervened because they felt it was normal to pray for one of their fellow congregation members, and don't want to be seen as unsupportive of Jamie's needs.
4. Select one of the families and explain two examples of how "larger system" influences contribute to or support that family's ABPD. As with question 2, your examples can come directly from the film, or they can be plausible examples of what might have been happening off camera.
5. Select one of the families and predict what the child's life will look like in five years. Your predictions must address the following three points. One prediction must make an explicit connection to a concept, theory, finding, etc. from content presented in the class.
