A traffic light of mass m1 hangs from the end of a beam of length L and mass m2, which is supported at an angle θ away from the vertical by a freely pivoting hinge at its bottom-most point and by a string pulling precisely horizontally on the beam at a distance 3/4 L from the hinge as measured along the beam. Note that in supporting the beam, the hinge has to supply a force with components in both the horizontal and vertical directions.
