Solve the following questions given below:
Question I: You start with 20 gallons of gasoline at 50 F. The temperature of the gasoline changes and the volume drops to 19.78 gallons. What is the temperature of the gasoline now?
Question II: You start with three metal bars, each is 1.0 m long at 20 C. (The three bars are aluminum, silver and titanium). The three bars are all heated to 150 C. Which bar will be the longest and which bar will be the shortest?
Question III: Copper piping used in plumbing is joined by using soldered joints. Solder has a coefficient of expansion approximately twice that of copper. As the piping is heated, do the joints get "tighter" or "looser"? Solder that is labeled "50/50" is composed of what?
Question IV: Heat treating a metal can affect some of the properties of the metal. Among those properties are hardness, toughness and ductility. Briefly define each of these three terms.
I know the correct answer for above questions but explain how to get this answer! Thanks.
