Interest Group Creation Assignment

This project is designed for students to create interest groups. In the process of creating their groups they will explore the development and workings of an interest group.

Groups of 1, 2 or 3 Students

1. Determine what issue you would like your interest group to tackle?

2. Determine a name for your interest group based on the issue.

3. Determine how you will raise your money for your interest group. (Assume reality)

4. Determine the type of group you have become, ideological, public interest, business oriented, social movement, or a professional society.

5. What is the stated purpose of your interest group?

6. Identify 2 types of foundations you will apply for grants to, based on your group.

7. Create a slogan for your group.

8. Identify a famous person who would endorse your group, based on their political allegiance.

9. Identify how you will lobby Congress, (gifts, campaign contributions, favors, trips) and identify : politician whom would align with your cause. What types of legislation would benefit your group:

10. Create a poll for your school and interview at least 20 students or teachers. Record how man) would join your group and how many would not, keep a list of names with their opinion.

Be sure 1 also record any comments they make about your stated Interest Group.

11. Make a video, commercial, or power point publicizing your Interest Group, in order to mobiliz, members. Remember this is a sway video, as in swaying the public to rally for your cause.

All work needs to be turned in on Power Point, or Word Document. And turned into the instructor, this will not be presented to the class, Unless extra credit is offered.
