Assume ideal gas behavior with constant specific heats : The following cycle involves 3 kg of air. From 1 to 2 is polytropic compression where P1=150 kPa, T1=360 K, P2=750 kPa, V2=0.54 m^3 and n=1.2 . From 2 to 3 is constant pressure cooling and from 3 to 1 is constant temperature heating. Determine the to..
Compute the frictional losses between these two sections : Water flows in a 2 ft diameter duct under the following conditions: p1= 55 psia and v1=20ft/sec. At another section 12 ft below the first the diameter is 1 ft and the pressure p2=40 psia. Compute the frictional losses between these two sections. Dete..
Piston-cylinder assembly contains a two-phase liquid-vapor : A piston-cylinder assembly contains a two-phase liquid-vapor mixture of ammonia initially at 500 kPa with a quality of 98%. Calculate the volume flow rate and mass flow rate : Water at 30 degrees C flows through a horizontal pipe (1 inch inside diameter), in which the pressure drop is to be limited to 0.015 lbf/ft^2 per foot of length. This low pressure per foot is imposed by the excessively long line involved. Calculate t..
What is the stagnation temperature at the outlet : The following information is known about the steady flow of methane through a horizontal insulated duct: Determine the outlet velocity. What is the stagnation temperature at the outlet?
Considering the ammonia as a system : A certain balloon is constructed of a material such that the pressure inside is related to the volume according to the relation PV^(-2/3)=constant. The balloon contains 2kg of ammonia initially at 0C, 60% quality. The balloon is now heated until the ..
A cantilevered beam with a rectangular cross section : A cantilevered beam with a rectangular cross section is loaded by a force perpendicular to the beam center line at the free end. The cross section is 100mm high and 25mm wide. The vertical load at the beam end is 40,000N.
Temperature change of water as it flows through the duct : Water flows through a duct of varying area. The difference in stagnation pressures between two sections is 4.5 x 10^5 N/M^2. If the water remains at a constant temp, how much heat will be transferred in this length of duct? If the system is perfectly..
Opened and half of the mass of the gas is allowed to escape : A rigid tank contains 5.56 kg of an ideal gas at 3.6 ATM and 40 degrees Celsius. Now a valve is opened and half of the mass of the gas is allowed to escape. If the final pressure in the tank is 2.0 ATM, the final temperature of the tank is?
