A 75 g piece of ice at an initially unknown temperature is placed into a glass of 350 g of water sitting at room temperature when it is 75ºF in the room. The glass and ice come to thermal equilibrium at 4ºC. A. Assuming that no heat is lost to the surroundings, find the initial temperature of the ice. Assume c ice = 2000 J/kgºC and Lf = 3.35 x 10 5 J/kg. B. Now suppose that a large block of the original ice (mass = 10 kg) has a 0.65 kg piece of hot (250ºC) metal placed on it so that, in time, 0.40 kg of the ice melts.
