First, choose a group working to solve a social problem in San Antonio Texas. You can choose a group you are familiar with or one that is new to you.

Second, identify the specific social problem they are working to solve. Some groups may focus on multiple problems, but for this assignment, you need to pick only one problem. This can be a problem we covered during the semester or it can be a different social problem. The only qualification for your choice is that it should be a social problem that you care about.

Third, research the activist group. You should review the questions below and then collect information. You can visit the organization in person, call or email the group and talk to someone who works there, or visit their website (or all 3!) to complete your investigation.

Paragraph 1 - Introduction

  1. What group did you choose and what is the social problem they are fighting to alleviate?
  2. Why are you interested in this social problem?
  3. What are some statistics about the problem as it impacts SA currently?

Paragraph 2 - Group Description

  1. What is the group doing to remedy the problem? How do they do it?
  2. What good has the activist group done so far?
  3. Is there a volunteer aspect of the group? How would a person sign up to volunteer with the group and what would they do as a volunteer?
  4. What are the future goals of group?

Paragraph 3 - Your Evaluation

  1. Based on what you found during your investigation, do you think the group is effective?
  2. What changes would you suggest to the group to better or differently help alleviate the social problem?
  3. What did you learn about this social problem as it affects SA?
