First, review Chapters 1 and 3 from your text and, using PowerPoint, create a 10-question fan quiz for a fan culture category (TV, games, movies) and fan artifact (Star Trek, Pokémon, Fight Club, etc.).
Perhaps it's a fan category and fan artifact that you are passionate about. If so, imagine that those taking your quiz are other passionate, like-minded fans of that category or artifact-and you are testing their knowledge to prove that they are a real fan!
Next, create an additional 3-4 slides in your PowerPoint presentation addressing the following in your slides (use the speaker notes to elaborate on your responses):
Cultural and Societal Attitudes: What cultural and societal attitudes, choices, and behaviors did you have in mind when creating your fan quiz? Explain your reasoning.
General Education Lens: Which of the four general education lenses influenced the creation of your fan quiz? Explain.
Social Impact: What is the social impact of the fan quiz? Explain your reasoning.
Use: How can you utilize this fan quiz in your professional life? Provide an example or two.
Popular/Fan Culture: How do fan quizzes impact popular culture and the creation and development of it as a commodity? Consider how popular culture creates fan culture.
Upload your PowerPoint presentation (quiz and additional narrated slides) to this discussion topic. Refer to the text readings and other course resources to support your responses.
Response posts are encouraged but not required for this activity. Don't be shy! Take a look at what your peers have put together. Are you really the ultimate fan?
Take your classmates' quizzes and tell them how you did. Geek out over common interests or share something new you learned.
