A robot arm carrying a 2.75-lb package is moving in a horizontal circle at 4 miles/hr. The arm is gradually shortened for the first 0.11 s of its motion, changing the radius of the circle. The maximum acceleration the package can withstand without damage is 1.75 g's.

(a) What is the smallest allowable length of the robot arm?

(b) Unfortunately the robot has to put the package on a conveyer belt which is closer than the minimum.

Therefore the arm must also be slowed. If the arm is slowed to a speed of 3 miles/hr while it is being shortened, what is the new smallest allowable length?
