Researchers Christ Elle Demas and associates wanted to determine if having a television (TV) in the bedroom is associated with obesity. The researchers administered a questionnaire to 379 twelve-year-old French adolescents. After analyzing the results, the researchers determined that the body mass index of the adolescents who had a TV in their bedroom was significantly higher than that of the adolescents who did not have a TV in their bedroom. (a) Why is this an observational study? What type of observational study is this?
(b) What is the response variable in the study? What is the explanatory variable?
(c) Can you think of any lurking variables that may affect the results of the study?
(d) In the report, the researchers stated, "These results remain significant after adjustment for socioeconomic status." What does this mean?
(e) Can we conclude that a television in the bedroom causes a higher body mass index? Explain.
Outlet temperature and the chip power dissipation
: Using properties of cp = 1007 J/kg · K, k = 0.0263 W/m · K, and µ, = 185 X 10-7 N · s/m2, determine the air outlet temperature and the chip power dissipation.

Calculate standard deviation, and coefficient of variation
: Statistics students were asked to fill one-cup measuring cups from boxes of Kellogg's Raisin Bran cereal, and then to count the number of raisins in the one-cup serving. The results, from 13 students, were sampled and are shown here. 23, 33, 44, 3..

What is usability in software engineering
: The software is seriously flawed but customers continue to use it because its interface is very similar to other products on the market in the same price range.

Perfluorinated liquid with properties
: Consider the microchannel chip cooling applica- tion of Problem 8.109 but now for a perfluorinated liquid with properties of cp = 1050 J/kg · K, k = 0.065 W/m · K, µ, = 0.0012 N · s/m2, and Pr = 15.

What is the response variable in the study
: In the report, the researchers stated, "These results remain significant after adjustment for socioeconomic status." What does this mean? Can we conclude that a television in the bedroom causes a higher body mass index? Explain.

What is a genetic mutation you have heard
: What is a genetic mutation you have heard about in the news recently that involves a change in the DNA molecule? Describe the mutation and why it involves a DNA molecule change.

List the numbers that correspond to the 20 clients selected
: A salesperson obtained a systematic sample of size 20 from a list of 500 clients. To do so, he randomly selected a number from 1 of 25, obtaining the number 16. He included in the sample the 16th client on the list and every 25th client thereafter..
