Question: What is the response to this? Ventricular Tachycardia (V-Tach) can be life-threatening in a sustained rhythm leading to ventricular fibrillation (V-fib). Characterized by three or more PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) in a row lasting for >30 seconds or by sudden onset. Patients are tachycardic with rates of 120-250 beats/min. There can be a wide QRS complex with a left bundle branch block (LBBB) as opposed to a narrow complex found in supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) (Gomella & Haist, 2007).

I was taught the saying, "when in V-fib, you need to D-fib," so this is an emergent situation. In ventricular fibrillation (V-fib) there is no cardiac output (Gomella & Haist, 2007). The ventricles have erratic electrical activity showing "squiggly" lines on the ECG strip. You need to get to an AED or a crash cart and defibrillate.
