Many people buy cut flowers from the florist to beautify their homes and for the fragrance. The flowers are typically stripped of their leaves, stems cut off at the bottom, and placed (stems down) into a vase of water, forming a bouquet. I suggest adding a little table sugar and a drop of bleach to the water, and change the water often, each time adding a little sugar (125g to a 950ml of water and a one to three drops of bleach - 0.05- 0.15ml). Given how I described how florist make bouquets:

1. What is the purpose of providing sugar? Why would your cut, stripped flowers need you to provide 'food'?

2. Specifically, what is the purpose of the bleach?

3. Instead of sugar and bleach, what would compounds would you use and why?

4. Should you use water at 17C to place your flowers in ?
