Assessment Task 1: For this assessment, you have to imagine yourself as an external change management consultant in an organisation who has been appointed to take a lead role in the change management process of the organisation as well as the development of strategic goals and associated roles and responsibilities. For this purpose, you can choose the case study provided in Appendix, an imaginary organisation or one where you have worked or are working.
Once you have chosen an organization, you have to carefully analyse and interpret the detailed strategic as well as numeric/financial information and complex ideas related to problems within and external to your chosen business. After understanding their needs, you have to propose a change required in the organization. The report should be prepared in a professional, word processed, format and should use clear and precise language to develop information. It must be between 500 to 1000 words. You would be given a weeks' time to complete this task. Necessary feedback will be provided by the trainer after you have submitted your task.
Assessment Task 2: Following task 1, you will deliver a power point presentation on the developed change management plan. You will assume your classmates as stakeholders. You would be given weeks' time to prepare the power point and 45 minutes to present the power point. Necessary verbal feedback will be provided by the trainer at the end of the session.
Assessment Task 3: For this assessment, your will have to answer all the question. This will test your knowledge on change management. You will be given 3 hours to complete this task.
ASSESSMENT TASK 1 - REPORT
STUDENT INSTRUCTION:
For this assessment, you have to imagine yourself as an external change management consultant in an organisation who has been appointed to take a lead role in the change management process of the organisation as well as the development of strategic goals and associated roles and responsibilities. For this purpose, you can choose the case study provided in Appendix, an imaginary organisation or one where you have worked or are working.
Once you have chosen an organization, you have to carefully analyse and interpret the detailed strategic as well as numeric/financial information and complex ideas related to problems within and external to your chosen business. After understanding their needs, you have to propose a change required in the organization. You can propose any change or select one from the list below:
• Implementing a new administration system
• Implementing a new rostering system and structure
• Expanding to international markets
• Refinement to work practices like reducing staff workload
• Diversifying or expanding the product mix
• Introduction of new technology
After the choice of the change that has to be introduced is finalized, you are to complete and submit a report.
The report should be prepared in a professional, word processed, format and should use clear and precise language to develop information. It must be between 500 to 1000 words and it must include the following:
1. The process to identify the need for change in the organization. This process should include planning, organizing and implementing activities to identify strategic priorities
a. Conduct an organizational environment scanning to analyse and interpret information about the organization's internal and external environment
b. Consult stakeholders including managers to identify the needs and opportunities of change. Discuss how the change is aligned with the organizational objectives.
(Student has to provide meeting minutes as an evidence of the consultation process)
c. Research on policies and procedures relating to change management
d. Trends associated with the change
e. Performance gaps that may be related to the change
2. Change management strategy including development of complex plans to be adopted by the organization for introducing the change.
a. A change management plan - including priorities list and timelines for activities
b. Resource required for the change
c. Communication and consultation tools and strategies for informing the change and for building and maintaining effective workplace relationships including the description of how these will be delivered
d. Cost-benefit analysis
e. Risk analysis strategies to mitigate risk
f. Approvals required and how will these be obtained
g. Timelines
3. Strategy for the successful implementation of the identified change by developing new and innovative ideas through lateral thinking.
a. Identification of barriers to change using problem solving skills and explanation to how these will be overcome
b. Training required to implement the change
c. SWOT analysis
d. Implementation strategy
e. Monitoring and evaluation methods
f. Modifications needed in the change management plan, if any.
You will be given one week to complete the task.
ASSESSMENT TASK 2 - PRESENTATION
STUDENT INSTRUCTION:
As a continuation of Task 1, the students have to consider their classmates as stakeholders and deliver a power point presentation on the developed change management plan in the previous task.
The presentation must include the discussion of the detailed change management plan addressing the following:
• Introduction of the chosen organisation
• Project sponsor
• Project objectives
• Change objectives and principles
• Rationale for the change
• Key stakeholder analysis
• Assessment of readiness to change
• Key change messages
• Change plan
• Consolidation and;
• Evaluation
During the presentation, the student has to:
» use clear and appropriate language and format suited to particular audience and purpose
» listen actively and ask questions to confirm understanding and provide clarification if required
» use collaborative skills to negotiate, consult and seek feedback from stakeholders (other students in this task)
