Consider the following: If the population is normally distributed with a mean of μ = 60 and a standard deviation of σ = 4, then what is the probability of randomly selecting a score that is greater than 62? In other words, what proportion of the distribution consists of scores greater than 62? What does this information tell you about this score?

Consider that the binomial distribution is used whenever the measurement procedure simply classifies individuals into exactly two categories. Suppose that you have flipped a coin for heads or tails (i.e., the only two possible categories), and you have flipped the coin 50 times. You know that the probability of success of a given trial is 0.5, which is another way of saying fifty-fifty.

Answer each of the steps below for the binomial distribution, and please show all work:

  1. What is the probability that you will get heads at least 17 times?
  2. How would this look as a binomial symbol?
  3. Identify p and q and solve.
  4. Is pn and qn greater than 10? If so, then what does this mean?
  5. Identify the parameters and sketch a binomial distribution (you can take a picture of this or use the drawing tools on the discussion board).
  6. Find the z-score for X and give the probability for getting heads at least 17 times
