The popularity of internship programs has grown dramatically over the last decade years. The 2- term internship program is believed to enhance the effectiveness of the university's academic program as well as preparedness and the employability of graduates. However, many students who are considering an MBA or other grad school program are concerned that internship programs have a negative impact on their overall GPA which will hurt their chances of getting into a top school's master program. So, the question remains as to whether or not internships improve a student's performance (i.e. get better marks) or hurt academic performance due to the 'split focus' (juggling school and work) phenomenon. The majority of students don't take an internship program and 22% of their grades improve in the following year. Thirteen percent of students enter an internship program and sixty-eight percent of them see no improvements in their marks.
