A company is considering changing its starting hour from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. A census of the company's 1,200 office and production workers finds that 370 of its 750 production workers would be against the change, and a total of 715 workers are in favor of the change. To further assess workers' opinions, the regional manager decides to speak with a random sample of workers. Find the probability for each question.

The table below is constructed using Excel to compute probabilities by dividing each number by the total.

Data from Excel Number P For Change P Against Change P

Office Workers 450 0.375 335 0.744 115 0.256

Production Workers 750 0.625 380 0.507 370 0.493

Total Workers 1200 1 715 0.596 485 0.404

  • What is the probability that a randomly selected worker will be in favor of the change?
  • What is the probability that a randomly selected production worker will be in favor of the change?
  • What is the probability that a randomly selected worker will be against the change and an office worker?
