Case Study: Man on a bike carrying uber eats.At one time, employees sought a full-time position in one organization and then maintained that position for years, if not decades. Today, the average employee can expect to have anywhere from 12 to 15 different jobs in their lifetime, and the median number of years an employee stays in their job is about 4.2 years, a continued decrease over the years. This has exponentially complicated the role of human resources, as has the dramatic movement of workers from employees of an organization to contingent workers (including contractors and consultants). With that background, discuss the following:
Question 1: What is the principal difference between an employee and a contingency worker, including the advantages and disadvantages each type of employment offers the average worker?
Question 2: Secondly, discuss how the movement from employees to contingent workers greatly complicates the role of human resources. Identify strategies that human resource professionals can employ to better manage the growing contingent workforce.
