Assignment:
After going through the case study, answer the questions below.
Andrew's hike went well at first. He handled the steep climbs and jumps without too much difficulty and he was amazed by the scenery and wildlife in the area. But he is a little worried by the dark and ominous clouds that are gathering quickly to the west. He felt a cold wind starting to blow and wished he had brought extra clothing. He realized he wasn't used to the cold and found himself wishing for the Florida sunshine. Soon, snow started to fall and Andrew began to worry about dealing with the weather. He thought he should start heading back to his car since he is at least four hours away. He decided to head back towards the trail head.
It is now quite dark and the snow is coming down heavily. The trail is getting hard to follow and Andrew isn't sure he is moving in the right direction. He is starting to feel cold and fatigued. His clothes are wet since he stumbled into a lake. He needs to rest, so he finds a large pine tree and sits down beneath it. Andrew heard stories of people suffering rapid drops in body temperature, known as hypothermia. He knows he has to find a way to keep warm or he might be in serious trouble.
Andrew is starting to feeling fatigued. On top of that, he is shivering. His hands and feet are starting to feel cold. He feels the need to continue moving, so he begins walking. He eats his last energy bar. It seems to make him feel a little better. Andrew continues to walk, hoping something would look familiar and he could find his way back to the trail head.
Andrew is starting to get scared. He realizes he is probably lost and is now very cold. His hands and feet are starting to feel numb and he shivering more than ever. At this point, he is very fatigued and is feeling light-headed. He isn't making much progress since he is stumbling every few feet. He is having issues concentrating. Andrew hears what he thinks is an engine and he thinks he sees a light climbing up towards him slowly. Suddenly a park ranger appears on an all-terrain-vehicle. "Are you okay?" the park ranger asks. "We found your car down the hill and figured you might have been caught up here in this storm. We need to get you down to the ranger station and get you warmed up as quickly as we can!" said the ranger. "You need to be careful up here, you never know what the mountains have in store."
