A fly with curly wings is mated with a fly that has straight wings. The curly-winged fly lays 350 eggs that hatch, make larvae, then pupae, then adult flies. All of the young flies have the wing phenotype of the male parent. The original female parent (P1) also had a yellow head, and the original male (P1) had a green head. Of the offspring 165 had green heads and 185 had yellow heads. Two of the second generation (F2) with yellow heads are crossed and their offspring all have yellow heads.
