Problem: A total of 3000 workers at a particular industry were asked whether they had a history of hypertension or not at the beginning of their employment. Of the 3000, 60% were males, 40% were 40-50 years of age and 60% were above the age of 50 years. Of the 3000 workers, 600 reported a history of hypertension. Of the 600 cases of hypertension, 30% were males and 70% were above 50 years of age.
Between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2006 all 3000 workers had periodic health evaluations that included blood pressure evaluation. Assuming all individuals already on medication truly had hypertension, there were 302 male workers who were labeled as being hypertensive. What is the period prevalence of hypertension among males in the entire sample of workers during this three-year period?
