Plato Meno (1)(2)(3)(4)

Meno defines virtue (something we regard as inherently good) as "helping friends and harming enemies." How does Socrates show that this definition breaks down into incoherence, once follow-up questions are asked and the definition is made more determinate? Socrates sets up a dilemma: is the helping of friends or harming of enemies done with or without justice, or does it not matter?

What is the "paradox of learning"? How might we frame this paradox as a constructive dilemma? How is the paradox blocked or critiqued as unsound?

What, then, is learning, ultimately? And why is learning impossible, unless we first have knowledge of a certain sort?

What does Socrates mean when he says that all learning is recollection? Is this a metaphor? What is it a metaphor for?
