1. Assume the first three rows of Table A.1 are a random sample of size 150 and test that each of the digits 0, 1, ... , 9 is equally frequent in the whole table by means of a multinomial chi-square test (a = 0.05). What is the P value associated with this test?

2. Within some populations the proportion of those who are carriers of the sickle-cell trait is estimated to be 30%. A public health officer on a Caribbean island wonders whether this estimate is correct for the citizens of that island. Assuming that it will be a random sample, he requests that the next 150 blood tests performed in a certain clinic also include a microscopic examination for the sickling phenomenon. Given that there are 57 cases of sickling in the sample, perform a multinomial chi-square test to determine whether this proportion is correct. Use a = 0.05. State the final conclusion.
