The Bohr model of an atom assumes that electrons orbit the nucleus, in a manner similar to how planets orbit a sun. Within a hydrogen atom, an electron orbits a proton at a speed of 2.2 x 106 m s-1 in a circular orbit of radius 5.3 x 1011 m.
