Directions: You will select a journal article that involves in the analysis the results of a multi-item scale or index (Note: a Likert scale is not a multi-item scale). [Read the Methods section of the article to determine whether the author(s) employed an index or scale to measure a concept (e.g., a multi-item measure of relationship quality, participation in delinquent activities, religiosity, etc.). If the first article you examine does not include an index or scale, then find another article.]
Question 1. you are to report what concept the index or scale is measuring, and what questionnaire items were included to measure that concept.
Question 2. report how each item was measured (what are the answer categories, what is the numerical range of the answer categories, and what is the range of the index or scale).
Question 3. provide a critique of the index or scale: what items seem misplaced (i.e., they don't belong in the index/scale), and what questionnaire items do you think should have been written/included to measure the concept? Why?
