The distance between the plates of a parallel plate capacitor with air between the plates is 9 mm. The capacitor is charged and disconnected from the voltage supply, giving the capacitor a stored energy of 40 µJ. If the distance between the plates is decreased to 6 mm and the region between the plates is filled with a material of dielectric constant 3, what is the new energy stored in the capacitor?
