How can the following situations be approach as a manager of the company
SITUATION A
It is a very busy Friday afternoon lunch rush at the CSI Bistro located on the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago. The 120-seat restaurant with white marble table tops and sleek black metal chairs is completely full with guests at every table. Steve the host, who is a supervisor (paid an hourly rate), is trying to seat guests within the quoted time he has been giving as new parties walk into the restaurant. He noticed that there are three tables where the guests have finished their meal, left and the tables are dirty. After seating a party of two he stops by the wait station next to the kitchen looking for Mark the bus-boy. In a very professional manner Steve asks him to reset the dirty tables as quick as possible and then starts to walk back to the front door to greet new guests walking in. As he approaches the front Mark walks up behind him yelling "If you want the tables cleaned that bad than why don't you do them yourself - can't you see I'm busy!?" Steve quickly replies "Okay - thank you" and turns back to greet the guest who heard everything. Before Steve can even say "Welcome" to the new guest, the man says in a semi joking manner "Looks like you're short staffed today - You sure you can handle two more people for lunch?" The supervisor handles the guests and plans to speak to Mark about his behavior once the busy rush ends.
1. Steve and the Kitchen manager bring Mark into the office after lunch. how can I provide Steve's summary of what happened during lunch by stating facts.
2. What is the negative outcome of Mark's behavior?
3. how can Steve also let Mark know how it affected him and other associates who also heard what he yelled out. If am Steve what statement I share with Mark in the meeting.
4. How should Steve handle the situation with Mark (discipline, termination or ....)? Explain why you think this would be the best way to handle the situation.
SITUATION B
You are the General Manager of the CSI Bistro located on the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago. The 120-seat restaurant with white marble table tops and sleek black metal chairs is known through the city as being a great place to eat, drink and hang out with friends. Friday night after waiting tables at the bistro a group of servers stop by a local bar for a drink or two. Patty, one of the servers (still in her uniform), has way too many drinks because everyone keeps buying them for her. She begins to scream and yell while she is sitting at the table with her boyfriend. Sue, another server from the restaurant, walks over to see what is going on and tries to calm Patty down. However, Patty erupts in rage because she believes her boyfriend is cheating on her with Sue. Patty begins to throw drinks on the table at Sue and slams the glasses on the floor smashing them into a million pieces. The bar manager instantly calls the police and approaches the table to inform them they have to leave. As he begins to speak Patty screams at him some very undesirable words and now the whole bar has stopped and turned to watch what is happening. The two other servers from the restaurant managed to pull Patty towards the front door, trying to get her outside. Now on the sidewalk in front on the bar Patty continues to scream and yell. She doesn't stop even with two cop cars pulling up to the bar. Soon after their arrival Patty was arrested and spent the night in jail. The next day, the bar manager, who is a business acquaintance of yours calls and tells you about what happened with Patty. You also receive a telephone call and an email from two other people who are regulars at the bistro informing you as to what happened.
- As the General Manager of the restaurant where Patty works, how would you handle this situation?
- Patty is an hourly employee of the restaurant and not at work when this happened. Should this situation affect her employment? Why or why not?
