1. Discuss how disasters, both human-made and natural, affect people and their communities. (refer to Disaster facts on pp. 455-456)
2. Visit the following website: National Incident Management System
3. What is the National Incident Management System?

On the left side click on National Preparedness Goal then scroll down and click on the blue box titled "see all mission areas and core capabilities". Use the information from your book and the information from the mission and core capabilities document to answer the following questions.

1. On the top of the page at click on Disasters and Assistance. Choose 1 disaster. Which disaster have you chosen?
2. Identify at least 3 activities for each of the phases of the Disaster Management cycle related to the disaster you have chosen.
3. Identify at least 1 activity the nurse could do in each of the phases of the Disaster Management cycle related to the disaster you have chosen.
