Question 1. Provide a clear, detailed description of the main points presented in Chambless & Hollon (1998). Describe a hypothetical study that would examine whether a specific therapy (of your choosing) would provide a preliminary demonstration of efficacy and specificity in treating a disorder (of your choosing). You will need to attend especially closely to the description of efficacy and specificity.
For the hypothetical study...
A. What is the name of the treatment being studied?
B. Which mental health diagnosis/diagnoses (e.g., depression, panic disorder, etc.) are being treated?
C. What control/comparison group are you using (if anything)?
D. Length of study
E. Number of participants in each group
F. How adherence to therapy protocol by therapists will be ensured (if you are doing this). In other words, how will you ensure that therapists provide the therapy you want them to provide during the study?
Question 2. Provide a clear, detailed description of the main points presented in Calhoun et al (1998). How do the authors believe that psychologists in training (grad students, predoctoral interns, and postdocs) should be trained in EST's? Do you think the authors believe that training in non-EST's is necessary or helpful? Why or why not?
