Question 1. What is the name of the agency your interviewee works for?
Question 2. What type of agency is it? (non-voluntary/governmental, quasi- governmental, voluntary/non-governmental)
You must interview a health professional for this assignment. This should be someone who holds a position you aspire to for yourself, upon graduation. With very few exceptions, this will be someone with at least a bachelor's degree in a health field. Do not interview someone who works for a commercial business related to health (It Works!, Underarmour, DoTerra, Herbalife, and Lululemon are not true health education/promotion jobs. Similarly, crisis pregnancy centers are agenda-driven, rather than evidence-based and health-driven, so employees of those organizations should not be interviewed for this assignment). The distinction between governmental, quasi-governmental, and voluntary/non-governmental health agencies is important, and it will be covered on the Certified Health Education Specialist Exam exam. Make sure to review the definition of each of these given in your textbook before categorizing your organization.
Question 3. Who do they serve? Describe the clients and population the agency works with (youth, elderly, low-income, people with a particular chronic illness...)
Question 4. How are they funded?
Question 5. In what locations/settings do they work? (corporate wellness, home visiting, in offices, at health fairs, in clinical settings, universities...)
Question 6. What does your interviewee like most/least about their job (that they are willing to admit!)?
Question 7. What advice does your interviewee have for professionals new to this field?
Question 8. Do they sometimes have jobs available that you might be interested in as a new grad? How about internships? For now, are there volunteer opportunities available that you would like to participate in? This can be a great way to build your resume while you are working on your degree.
