Sharon is a 18 year old gymnast who hopes to complete in the Olympics someday. She must keep her weight below 110 pounds, per her coach's direction. Her mother has always told her that "thin is beautiful" and has always been on a diet regimen for as long as Sharon can remember. You are the NP clearing her for a sports physical. Se is 63" tall and weighs 99 pounds for a BMI of 17.5. Blood pressure is 86 / 63 heart rate 99 her last menstrual period was three months ago and she is not sexually active. She discloses to you that on a good day she consumes 800 calories or less but on her "cheat days" she allows herself to have 200 more calories. However she also says that on her cheat days she exercises for an extra hour so that she does not risk gaining any weight. This has gotten progressively worse over the past six months. She reports that she has been feeling lightheaded and weak and worries that her weight loss will still not be sufficient for her coach or her mom's approval.
