The downlink (base station to mobile unit) for an 800MHz AMPS cellular system has the following parameters:
Transmitter power, Pt|dB=35W
Loss between Tx and antenna, L=3dB
Tx antenna gain, Gt|dB=10dBd
Rx antenna gain, Gr|dB=2.9dBd
Rx noise bandwith, BW=30KHz
Rx noise figure, F|dB=9dB
The noise temperature at the receiver antenna terminals is T0=290K. The equipment and environment suggest that 6dB of margin be used to assure performance under all conditions. For reliable voice communications, a received signal should be 17dB above the noise. What is the maximum range between a mobile unit and base station to ensure good communications?
