Activity 1: Reflect on actions and choices
Schillemans and Bjurstrømn (2020) argued that the establishment of good stewardship requires the development of collaborative relationships that help build trust among individuals. Dr. Huizenga and her team serve as an excellent example of this concept by creating a work environment that is psychologically safe and encourages mutual trust and accountability. They are responsible stewards of all the resources that have been entrusted to them by their organization.
1. What is the level of trust in your current or past workplace? If you were a team leader, what would you do differently to build trust?
2. When there is low trust, tension can arise between employees. What are the best ways to prevent or resolve conflicts within your team?
Activity 2: The nine principles of stewardship
Our organizations are made up of many individuals and for stewardship to be practiced, these individuals must decide to take ownership and responsibility for the redistribution of power, purpose, and wealth. Block (2013) provides a road map to reach this with his nine principles for the practice of stewardship.
