For the problems below, read Appendix F and then download and use MIL-HDBK-5J to com- plete. References to pages or sections of MIL-HDBK-5J begin with the text MH. All problems are for materials at room temperature unless otherwise noted.
1. A1 Consider a specimen that is 12 in. long * 1.50 in. wide that is cut from a sheet of 0.0625 in. thick 17-7PH stainless steel in the TH1050 aging condition. Properties for this material are described in Section MH2.6.10. The load is applied in the 12 in. direction, this corresponds to the L direction for the sheet.
(a) PH in the material designation means "precipitation hardened." Review the information on page MH2-213 and state the heat treatment steps for the material to be in the TH1050 condition.
(b) What is the tensile load (in lb) required for the specimen to reach the B basis yield stress?
(c) What is the length of the specimen under the load in part (b)?
A sphere of radius R is uniformly charged to a total charge of Q. It is made to spin about an axis that passes through its center with an angular speed ω. Find the magnitude of the resulting magnetic field at the center of the sphere.
A resistor is in the shape of a cube, with each side of resistance R . Find the equivalent resistance between any two of its adjacent corners.
