Draw an inverted bowl – i.e., a horizontal line (exactly 10 inches long), with a big semi-circular upside-down “U” connecting the ends of that horizontal line. This is a picture of the ground and sky. Draw a little tiny person (you) at the mid-point of the horizontal line. Label the left end of the line “S” (for south) and the right end “N” (for north). Now, go find a protractor (or you can use trig to construct the angles correctly by some other methods), and draw three parallel, equally-spaced lines, one inch apart (and thus two inches between the two outer lines), slanting from upper left to lower right, at an angle of 30 degrees from the horizontal – with the middle line going from you out to the inverted semi-circle above and to your south (left). Only show the parts of the lines INSIDE the inverted bowl. These slanted lines represent an edgewise view of the big circular arcs of the sun on the solstices and equinoxes. They show the boundaries and center-line of the “solar window” … like a big map of the tropics and equator, extended out onto the sky, as seen from where you are on the earth.
For this drawing you’ve just done, what is the latitude of your location?
A MSW landfill is being designed to handle solid waste generated by Binford at a rate of 50 Mg/d. It is expected that the waste will be delivered by compactor truck on a 5d/week basis.
A piston-cylinder device contains helium gas initially at 150 kPa, 20 degrees C, and 0.5 m^3. The helium is now compressed in a polytropic process (PV^n = constant) to 400 kPa and 140 degrees C.
A traffic signal control is being designed for a four-leg intersection on a divided highway with the characteristics shown in the table below. Determine an appropriate length of the yellow interval for each approach and how you will provide it.

Just below the point where a continuous discharge of pollution mixes with the river, the BOD is 10.9 mg/L and the DO is 7.6 mg/L. The river and waste mixture has a temperature of 20oC, a deoxygentation constant of 0.2/day
Peg P is driven by the fork link OA along the curved path described by r = (2*theta) ft. At the instant theta = pi / 4, the angular velocity and angular acceleration of the link are (theta-1dot) = 3.0 rad/sec and (theta-2dot) = 1.1 rad/sec^2
Determine whether municipal wastewater containing 5 mg/L of selenium is a RCRA hazardous waste
the pin at B is attached to member ABC and can slide freely along the slot cut in the fixed plate. Neglecting the effect of friction, determine the couple M required to hold the system in equilibrium when.
Pinion gear A rolls on the fixed gear rack B with an angular velocity = 8 rad/s. Determine the velocity of the gear rack c . Assume the direction to the right as positive.
An intake conduit from a well field used to pump ground water is being designed for a town with a population of 23,000 people. Six years ago the population was 21,500 people. a) assuming deometric growth, calculate the population in 50 years
A company facing an interest rate of 8% must choose among projects offering the following four-year cash flows. If the company is employing the net present value criterion, which project should they choose
