Read the 6(six) supplied scenarios. Find the most appropriate section in the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario or the WHMIS Regulations (no other legislations) for all 6(six) scenarios. When you find the section that best suits the contravention in the scenario, state the section, sub section, and clause, what Act or Regulation it was found in and describe the intention of the section in detail. (i.e. 25(2)(h) of the Occupational Health & Safety Act). If you do not include all components you will lose marks. Be sure to select ONE section, sub section and clause. You may find various sections that may apply and that is normal however choose what you think is the most appropriate section. You can discuss the other sections in the answer as well however ensure that you select one section as your main answer. Assignment should be minimum 2pages.You should have the guides to the Act and WHMIS Regulations however if you want copies of the complete Act and WHMIS regulations they can downloaded from the Ministry of Labour website at:

SCENARIOS: 1) Tim is a machine operator at an automobile seat manufacturer. The machine keeps jamming up and due the safety interlocks he needs to shut the machine down every time. He decides to tape down the safety interlock switch so that he can open the machine door without shutting down the machine. What section was contravened? The supervisor fails to tell Quinn that the brakes aren't working properly and that is why it is in the shop. As Quinn is bringing it in he can't stop and pins another worker to the work bench breaking both his legs. What section was contravened? What is the intent of the section? 3) Skyler is a Stock Clerk at a local grocery store. To stock the higher shelves in the grocery section Skyler needs to use a small step ladder. He goes to the back storage area where all the ladders are stored and grabs a two-step ladder to use. Skyler doesn't notice that the ladder is missing two non-slip feet. When he starts to use the ladder it slips out from under him and he falls breaking his right wrist. What section was contravened? What is the intent of the section? 4) Jamal just started a new job as roofer. Jamal arrives at the shop for his first shift and the employer sends him to a work site. He is told to grab a hammer and get on the roof. What section was contravened? What is the intent of the section? 5) A young worker, Hailey, just started a new summer job as a lifeguard at the local outdoor swimming pool. First day on the job Hailey is told by the employer to get some Chlorine and add it to the main distribution tank. Hailey adds Muriatic Acid instead and poisonous Chloramine gas is generated. Hailey is overcome by the poisonous fumes and succumbs to her injuries. What section was contravened? What is the intent of the section? 6) Mohammed is 17 years old and just started working at a large restaurant with 45 workers. Mohammed has some health & safety issues in the workplace however is uncomfortable to bring the issues up with the manager because he is still on probation and doesn't want to rock the boat. There is no where else in the workplace for Mohammed to report these issues. What section was contravened? What is the intent of the section?
