Although physics problems often assume that inductors have zero resistance, actual inductors can, in fact, have appreciable resistance. Suppose that when a real inductor is connected to a 12V battery, the current in the inductor is 3.0 A. When it is connected to an AC source with an rms output of 18.5 V and a frequency of 60 Hz, the rms current is 1.5 A. (Hint: An actual inductor should be represented as a resistor in series with an ideal (zero-resistance) inductor.)
(a) What is the impedance at 60 Hz?
Z =
(b) What is the inductance of the inductor?
L = mH
