Introduction Guide and Outline
This guide is meant to help you move from your literature search to the Introduction section of your proposal. For now, you are creating a guide by making sure you are able to answer the following questions. When it comes to the full draft you are expected to go beyond answering these questions.
Provide a sentence on each of the following:
1) What are you studying?
2) What is the importance of this topic and research study?
3) What has the prior literature found related to your topic (include APA citations)?
4) How will your study relate to this previous work in the area?
5) What is/are your research question(s). What are your hypotheses?
Write your Outline
A well-structured introduction sets the stage for your research, provides context, and engages your readers. You will also need to write an outline that will serve as a roadmap for your introduction, ensuring clarity and coherence in your writing.
Some things to consider when writing an outline:
Write each of the key elements of your introduction section so far (this will change over time as you read more articles). This might include details about the following information:
1) Why is this an important topic to study?
2) General background information
3) Specific context for your study
4) Statement of the problem or research question
5) Significance of the study
6) Purpose and objectives of the research
7) Overview of the structure of the paper
Decide what order this information should come in. Consider what information might be helpful to know first, what information might be best to learn last.
