Assignment:

The function of government has been a matter of debate since the early days of the colonists' freedom from Great Britain. The founders' thoughts on the role of government were a result of their experiences living under British rule and their wish to avoid the mistakes of the past. It is 1787 and states' delegates are preparing to convene for the Constitutional Convention of Delegates, where they will discuss the role and function of the newly formed government and the writing of the U.S. Constitution. There is a great deal of debate concerning ways to place checks on governmental power. Delegates are concerned that history could repeat itself and that one person or entity could seize too much power or exercise excessive control over the individual rights of citizens. Let's review a few concepts before you make a decision about this scenario. Based on the foundation of the Magna Carta, what is the guiding principle of the Constitution?
