After reading Whitman's "Song of Myself," discuss the following:

1. In section 6, Whitman attempts to answer the question "What is the grass?" What do his answers reveal about his attitude toward nature.

2. In section 48, Whitman begins, "I have said that the soul is not more than the body, / And I have said that the body is not more than the soul, / And nothing, not God, is greater to one than one's self is..." How does the rest of the poem illustrate this idea?

3. Whitman's poem is a celebration of himself. Can we also read this as a poem about America?
