Discussion Thread: Communicating the Superiority of Christ
Doctrine is important, and religion is important.
[1] What we believe matters because we will live according to what we believe. The strongest argument Wilson made for the superiority of Christ is that of the incarnate nature of God, in Jesus, is evidence of His grace. Heaven comes down. In every religion outside of Christianity, people are to seek and work for their god/status. They struggle and strive and work to be deemed worthy. By contrast, the God of Abraham sought him. He pursues us. What's more, "the God of Christianity both demands and provides".
[2] What is required of us is not possible for us, we cannot be good enough to attain the righteous standards of the creator of the universe, and so in His grace, mercy, goodness, and kindness towards us, He provides. He provides the methods and means for us to be righteous in His eyes.
It's difficult to choose an argument that could be considered weak from Wilson's book. The message that the chief strategy of Christians is to die,
[3] strengthens the message of the impact of the Gospel. Wilson said "The resurrection is personal"
[4], and it literally changes everything. The fact that people die all over the world for their belief in the power of resurrection highlights the impact this grace has on us. Our victory is in our surrender because "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Jesus did all the work!
