Assignment -
Imagine that you have been selected as a reviewer for a recent paper submission to an FT-50 listed journal. Given your extensive training in quantitative methodologies, the Associate Editor would like you to be particularly attentive to issues surrounding the robustness, design and execution of the empirical studies included in the manuscript. Taking this into account, please prepare answers to the following questions:
1. What is the general objective of the paper, what theory are hypotheses based on and, in general, what types of methods have been used to provide answers to the research question?
2. Discuss in more depth (1) the strengths of the paper (i.e. what conclusions can be drawn from the statistical analysis used), and the (2) methodological weaknesses. For the latter ones, please distinguish between (a) fatal and/or (b) minor limitations resulting from inappropriate use of methods (e.g. design, key methodological assumptions, sample, variables used, analysis, validity, reliability).
3. What should be specifically done to improve the quality of the paper (eg alternative methodologies, additional tests or data collection, missing coefficients?)
a. In order to obtain an invitation to revise and resubmit?
b. Beyond the scope of the paper as a potential path for future research?
4. In the light of your critical evaluation of the manuscript, what would be your recommendation to the Associate Editor (reject; major revision, minor revision, accept)?
