Assignment -
Budget and Budget Narrative - You will be developing a startup or operating budget for your ideal program, or if you are currently a director, for your program. In developing your budget, review your philosophy. What are your program's values and beliefs about young children, parents and staff? What line items will fund these values and beliefs? Prioritize values and beliefs through line item funding.
Points to consider while preparing your budget: What is the full cost of quality in your program? Are your staff subsidizing the cost of quality? Invest in your staff! Seek help when you need it, whether it is in the form of a volunteer, a donation, a consultant. Who helps to prepare the budget? Whose input will you seek?
Recognize all programs struggle with the "trilemma": balancing quality staff/staff compensation, affordability for parents and nutrition. Each of the issues in the trilemma is difficult and working on one of these issues generally makes it more difficult to work on the other two.
Submit your budgets and budget narrative explaining your income and expenses and how you chose your priority areas. Cite sources from textbook and websites assigned this week. Budget needs to be in an appropriate report format.
