Case Study: Personality disorders are often seen as comorbid with other psychiatric illnesses. Some have a much higher prevalence than others and often complicate the clinical picture. Of all the personality disorders (PD), borderline PD, histrionic PD, antisocial PD, and narcissistic PD are frequently seen and demand the attention of the provider.
Group 1:
HPI: PF is a 21-year-old college student who presents with suicidal ideation. She has been depressed and despondent for the last three days. One week ago, she was happy and outgoing. She states that she recently told her college professor that she was considering ending her life. The patient states she often feels like she is alone in the world. Lately, she has been arguing with her new roommate.
Collateral: Her mother reports she has a history of unstable interpersonal relationships, fear of abandonment, and rapid mood changes.
PPH: She describes three prior suicide attempts(Multiple scars are found on her left wrist)
