1. A Cylinder of nitrogen gas (N2, diatomic) at RTP is adiabatically compressed so the final volume is 1/12 the original volume. What is the final pressure and temperature of the gas?

2. Calculate how much capacity the compressed gas has for doing mechanical work, and how much total energy the gas has gained. If necessary, use variables for quantities you are not given. Try to put everything in terms of Vi.

3. The compressed gas from the first two problems now comes to thermal equilibrium with the surroundings. What is the new temperature and pressure of the gas?

4. After coming to thermal equilibrium, what is the capacity for the gas to do adiabatic mechanical work and isothermal mechanical work. How much energy does the gas lose when coming to thermal equilibrium?
