Alessia is testing the efficacy of a new fertilizer on tomato plants; looking at the number of tomatoes produced per plant.

Alessia grows 40 tomato plants all from the same packet of seeds. She plants each seed in the same size pot, using the same soil, waters all of the plants the same amount each day, and gives them all the same amount of light. Alessia applies a single-strength dose of the new fertilizer to the same 20 plants each day during the growing season, while the other 20 plants do not receive the fertilizer. At the end of the growing season Alessia counts and weighs all of the tomatoes produced by each plant.
