Question

• To analysis journal articles that are attached; this should be an official academic literature review.
• Discuss the key arguments and findings, describing how you think theseliterature reviews apply to the incentive system in SMEs (Small-Medium enterprises) and specific research questions (see at below), plus the potential implications of these findings for your research.
• Remember that you must paraphrase the articles in your own words (appropriately referenced, of course) and synthesize their potential contribution to your research; they should not be presented as a 'list' of articles. Add your own analysis to this assignment.

1. Research topic:Research and re-design of incentive system for SMEs

2. Research questions:
• What is the essence of an incentive system?
• What are the differences of incentive system between that is used in MNEs and SMEs?
• How incentives increase employees' performance in SMEs?
• Why western incentive plan cannot prove to be useful in countries such as China or India?
• What is the difference between employees' individual and incentive needs in western culture and eastern culture?
• How theoretical frameworks (such as Maslow and Herzberg's theories) connect to the realistic incentive system?
• Should extrinsic rewards such as salary or annual bonus be kept in secret by employees between each other in SMEs?

Apart from the research questions, the researcher also formulates three hypotheses to study the relationship and variables among motivation, performance and strategic goals. The hypotheses are:
• The incentive system adopted by western SMEs are not always applicable to the eastern ones.
• Improper design of incentive system has major flaws that lead performance reduction and resource waste particular for SMEs.
• Instead of regular fixed extrinsic incentive, the higher the position the less the fixed extrinsic incentive should be for the management level in SMEs.
