Topic: Linkedin (CIS9000 - Information system and Strategy)
What I am looking for is an analysis and understanding of how the chosen company
chooses and uses its information systems.
What is the driving need to implement or replace that system or systems?
What was or is its strategy for choosing that information system or systems?
What are some of the costs of deploying this system, and who are some of the people involved both internally and externally?
• What is the governance model for decisions around IS?
Who is the final decision maker?
Is it one person or several?
Does this model conform to the teaching of this course?
Is this effective? Why or why not?
Additionally, I am looking for analysis from your team on whether or not this process is
effective and how it could be improved - and why.
If already deployed, are they using this system effectively? Why or why not?
If in planning stages, what are they not considering that you think should be considered?
You can choose to focus on only one IS but make sure it's a substantial system -
HR/Payroll/CRM/Finance/Banking/Insurance, etc.
• You should talk to customers and users of the system and not just IT personnel - and vice versa.
I understand that companies may choose NOT to share specific cost information or other proprietary information - this is fine, but try to at least get directional information or percentages as it pertains to cost. The more you can get, the easier your job will be.
But they should be willing to share the components of that cost structure, and enough general information about their process in general to drive your teams analysis.
Should the companies you are profiling wish to see the final report, you may provide them with a copy after I have reviewed it. I believe this would be valuable for them, and viewed as "free" consulting, as the vast majority of your team have significant work experience, and will sign an NDA if requested, as will I.
Most important - what is the BUSINESS REASON WHY this system has been or is being deployed? Because everything else stems from that.
