A 1.000 m long sight rod is viewed by a theodolite which has an objective lens of focal length 240mm. the centre support of the theodolite is 77.5 mm behind the objective lens. The image of the rod on the g reticule is 1.5 mm high.

a) What is the distance of the rod from the centre support?

b) What is the uncertainty in the computed distance measurement if the uncertainty in each of the above measurements is ± 1 in the last quoted digit?
