The earthquake I selected occurred in Kuril'sk, Russia on February 02, 2020. The location exactly is 45.615°N 148.958°E. This earthquake occurred at 10:33 am had a depth of 144.0, and had a magnitude of 7.0 mww. "In the southern section of the Kuril arc oblique subduction results in the partitioning of stress into both trench-normal thrust earthquakes (e.g., the 12/03/1995 M 7.9 Kuril Island event) and trench-parallel strike-slip earthquakes (e.g., the 10/16/1994 M 6.7 Kuril Island event). This oblique convergence also drives the southwestern translation of the Kuril Arc, and its collision with the Japan Arc. The collision, in turn, drives the uplift of the Hidaka Mountains and causes northwest-southeast oriented compressional earthquakes across Hokkaido" and the fault size measures "from near the base of the trench to depths of 40 to 60 km" (USGS). I find it very interesting that the faults involved are different, one being a normal fault and the other being a strike-slip fault. The estimated fatalities were in the green, which means there was a low number of casualties. The estimates economic loss was in the yellow, which means there was some economic loss, but it wasn't that big of an impact. "Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are resistant to earthquake shaking, though vulnerable structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are adobe block and unreinforced brick with mud construction" (USGS). Due to this earthquake, the secondary effects have resulted in tsunamis and landslides that have increased their losses.
1. What is the depth of the earthquake?
2. What was the time the earthquake occurred?
3. What two types of faults are involved in this earthquake
