Common household vinegar is a dilute aqueous solution of acetic acid, CH3COOH, a weak acid. You just purchased a bottle of it and on the label it says that it is 5% by mass acetic acid. You do a experiment to determine if the label is correct. Acetic acid is a monoprotic acid.

In the first part of the experiment, you determine the density of the vinegar and obtain the following results:

Mass of empty graduated cylinder 43.56 g

Mass of graduated cylinder containing 7.63 mL of vinegar 51.30 g

What is the density of the vinegar solution?

Next, you use a 0.553 M NaOH solution to titrate the vinegar. You find that it takes 22.74 mL of the NaOH solution to react with 15.0 mL of the vinegar. What is the molarity of acetic acid in the vinegar solution?

How many grams of acetic acid are in 1 L of the vinegar solution? How many grams does one liter of vinegar weigh? What is the %by mass of acetic acid in the vinegar solution? Is the label correct?
